The Spiritual Consequences of Keeping Secrets From Yourself
Embarking on a spiritual journey is an exciting experience. There’s so much to learn about the world across many dimensions that it’s easy to forget our personal growth.
Yes, we often pursue self-care and that’s important, but we can be tempted only to soothe instead of fully heal our past wounds.
When we do this we stifle our spiritual awakening because we let that wound fester and scar. We’ll nurse that injury for the rest of our lives instead of seeking true healing.
Uncovering a Bad Spiritual Habit
You can tell when you’re doing this because you hide some part of yourself from others, but especially yourself. This shadow must never have the light of day upon it or your recognition of it. Your secret is a secret because you think hiding it makes it go away.
It doesn’t.
The problem with this is that you’ll avoid spiritual growth in that area and your spiritual awakening is meant to be a holistic transformation with no part of you left unchanged.
Don’t look at this bad spiritual habit as a failure on your part. We’re often influenced by the world into believing we can’t change and that who we are is who we’ll be forever – warts and all.
That’s not true. We don’t live in a static universe, but an evolving one. Your connection to the divine through your spiritual awakening helps you to embody spiritual and personal expansion.
How to Spiritually Heal
There are a lot of ways to heal but know that you don’t need to be completely healed to fully embrace your spiritual awakening.
Rather, consider your spiritual journey as an opportunity to heal your wounds.
Try therapy, talk with someone you trust, and do self-care, but know that you can approach healing with a divine touch too.
What you need to do is confront whatever shadow it is you’re trying to keep secret. You may find it beneficial to write it down on a slip of paper. The idea is that you manifest the secret into reality because you’re not going to let your pain linger anymore.
If you feel the pain but you don’t know how to put it into words, then shadow work will help you confront and identify that shadow.
But once you know what it is, you’re going to want to heal the spiritual bonds between you and the source of that pain.
What You Can Try Right Now
There’s one particular method that I see again and again: it’s called a cord-cutting ritual.
This is more popular among witches, but there’s nothing about it that would be unusual as it’s primarily a symbolic representation of an energy bond being severed.
You’re currently energetically attracted to the pain because you feel emotionally bonded to it. By channeling that energy into a cord and then physically cutting it, you’ll break that bond at a spiritual level and attract better things in the future.
Most cord-cutting rituals deal with fire and string, but here’s one you can try that’s safer and has items you already have.
Cord Cutting Ritual
- Grab a piece of paper and cut or rip it into three long pieces.
- Sit in a quiet place. You can put on calming music or meditative sounds.
- Slowly braid each piece together. Take your time and as you’re doing this think or even say out loud what your wound is.
- Once your cord is fully braided, hold that cord in your hands and visualize all the pain connected to your wound transferring over to the cord.
- Cut, shred, or unbraid the cord over a trash can. Think or say out loud that your wound no longer has any hold over you.
If you want, you can set this on fire, let the cord disintegrate into the water, release it into the wind, or bury it. However you choose to dispose of the broken cord is up to you.
You’ll Be Transformed
Once the spiritual bond is broken, your soul will be able to begin the process of healing and changing at a higher level.
You’ll feel more confident in your spiritual journey, but you’ll also feel like your wound no longer has the same energetic connection it had to you as before. This should make other forms of therapy and self-care more effective.
This cord-cutting ritual can also be used proactively on new problems you encounter when you feel a negative emotional bond forming so that you can keep your normal energetic vibration high and stop a pain cycle before it starts.
Know that you have the power to fuse personal healing with your spiritual journey. You’re connected to the universe and it’s time you grow into that power.
