Does Tarot Take Away Free Will?
Hello, my soul friends! You probably have a lot of questions and concerns about how tarot works. Such as, if you use it, do you have free will? Is your destiny set in stone?
This can be a scary fear and completely reasonable for you to have. But the good news is that the truth behind tarot is more compassionate and liberating than anything you may have believed until now.
Simply put, tarot is a powerful fortune-telling tool that peeks into possible futures. The message it gives is based on the choices you can make to improve your life.
That means the reading you’re given is a gift from the universe to enhance your free will – not take it away. And with that knowledge, you’ll be able to manifest the best future possible for yourself.
Tarot Is Personal to You
Each tarot deck is made up of 78 cards. These represent different aspects of life. When you shuffle the deck and lay down your spread, you’ll receive a unique message that the universe sent just for you.
A simple three-card spread has 456,456 different possibilities for any question. Amazing, right? Now imagine the possibilities for even bigger spreads and you’ll start to understand the wonderful complexity tarot has.
But the cards themselves each carry special and diverse energies. In one reading, you may be drawn to the name of the card Strength and read it literally, while in another, you’re struck by the innocent figure of the woman and imagine an inner strength instead.
You’re welcome to use tarot by memorizing the stock meanings of the cards and then fitting the best possible meaning to the surrounding cards and your question. However, trusting your intuition is also important as your personal intuition is a custom filter for tarot that few fortune-telling methods have.
The cards are designed to be symbolic and carry many different symbols at the same time. Trust your gut when you look at a card, even if the meaning isn’t one you have memorized from a book. Now those 456,456 different combinations expand significantly into unlimited possibilities!
You Create Your Destiny with Tarot
What you’ll discover the more you use tarot is personal agency. All the unlimited possibilities of interpretation, and the ability to read whenever you wish, means tarot becomes a tool to guide your choices rather than limit them.
Many fortune-telling methods, also called divination, focus on futures that are set in stone. Once you receive your fortune, you’re expected to wait for it to happen. However, tarot works best when you receive your fortune with the plan to actively manifest or reject it.
Love the reading you got? Keep doing what you’re doing. Hate it? Know that you can make changes and you can use the advice given in the reading to modify your behavior.
Tarot is also one of the few divination methods where you can work to change your future and then go back and redo the same reading to see what has changed.
But how does it do this? I’ll use an example of comparison and contrast. Astrology utilizes the placement of celestial bodies to determine their effect on our lives. You can’t change the position of the Sun to improve your circumstances.
However, tarot examines the present energy in your life and peaks into the future with that knowledge. When you alter your perspective, intention, or behavior the tarot will have a new energy from which to power its fortune-telling.
Tarot Is a Spiritual Meditation
You may not realize it at first, but tarot is more than just a fortune-telling tool: it’s also a spiritual tool to introspect and align yourself with the universe.
Few spiritual and fortune-telling practices give us such clear guidance on our inner selves.
When you’re feeling down and don’t know why, you can use tarot to probe your unconscious mind and get to the bottom of it. I also like using it to communicate with spirits or other divine beings.
Although tarot lacks a clear narrative, you can use the symbolism of the cards to construct a direct message that’s easy to understand.
There aren’t a lot of rules to tarot. While it can be frustrating for a beginner at times, you’ll soon discover that the soft boundaries of this fortune-telling tool allow you to use it in many different ways that other methods just can’t match.
I’ve even seen some writers and artists use tarot to help them construct stories and ideas to pursue!
Always approach tarot as a conversation that you’re participating in. You’ll have a lot more fun and feel readings are more custom to you that way.
Tarot Is Your Secret Weapon
To all the beautiful souls out there, revel in the possibilities that tarot has for you.
I’ve always found that tarot acts as a guiding light in my life. Use it to empower your free will so you can take your reading as advice rather than a life sentence you must follow from a cosmic judge.
Your life is one of options and you get to manifest the best one possible.
Destiny can be a beautiful thing – especially when you co-create it with the universe using tarot.
