Don’t Let Spirits Boss You Around
I’m fortunate that my house isn’t haunted. Spirits are powerful beings and they aren’t all working for your good. It would be awful to have to deal with something evil every day.
When I was fourteen, I went over to a friend’s house to celebrate her birthday. She pulled out a ouija board and everyone at the party gathered around.
Although the planchette moved, I had assumed it was one of the kids at the party. There was a strange energy in the room, but I ignored it.
I shouldn’t have.
An hour later, I found myself running from a drug cartel after our sunset excursion was interrupted. It was dark and I didn’t see the cactus when I ran into it. My body exploded in pain, but I didn’t stop running until I was safely back at my friend’s house. Because my pants had been covered in blood, everyone thought I had been shot.
I spent the next hour in a confusing delirium as my friend’s mother pulled each pin out with tweezers while over a dozen curious teenagers watched. I hadn’t shaved my legs in a few days, so it was hard to tell the difference between the hair follicles and cactus pins.
It was mortifying.
That was the day when I realized there are bad spirits out there and they will try to hurt you if they can. I should’ve “closed the board” the appropriate way like I had read about. But I didn’t.
That’s why I think you should take spirits seriously. However, you don’t have to fear them and you don’t have to suffer their bad influence.
Here’s how.
Avoid Evil
I’ve talked to a lot of occult practitioners. Almost all of them avoid ouija boards. As best as I can tell, the fear surrounding these specific talking boards is so overwhelmingly negative that evil spirits are automatically attracted to them. Their use often leads to persistent hauntings, or in my case, personal misfortune.
It takes strong energy to control the conversation. Since most people use ouija boards with people who don’t take it seriously, this is unlikely to happen.
That’s why the very best thing you can do to avoid spirits bossing you around is to identify the negative paranormal activities that would put you into a bad mindset. Perhaps you’d be in an emotionally sensitive position or you’d likely end up doing this activity with someone else who could be.
Most often, this includes ouija boards or some variety of curses. Ghost hunting seems to be more dependent on the resident ghost itself. Spiritual activities like astrology, tarot, and meditation rarely attract evil spirits since most people pursue these activities not to incite spirits, but to grow spiritually themselves.
The way to determine your personal no-gos is to use your sense of dread and environmental cues. Does it make you feel wary? Do other people tell you to avoid it? That’s a sign from the universe that there may be evil spirits looking for an open door specifically to you.
Be Discerning
Generally, I’ve only had positive experiences with spirit guides. A spirit guide may be a deity, an angel, a spirit animal, or an ancestor, just to name a few.
But one time, I tried to create a spirit guide relationship with a house spirit. The house spirit wanted nothing to do with me and caused me to have small (but not painful) accidents around my house until I stopped trying to make contact.
Message received.
You may find that not every spirit guide is working for your best interest. This is usually unintentional – not all your spirit guides will be in agreement. For example, ancestors of different religions may have different ideas on how you should approach a life issue.
That’s why you should hone your intuition or communication with your spirit guides so you can know which one is speaking. I find that asking for a particular spirit guide is very helpful for that reason.
However, some spirit guides are bossy or even malevolent. They could be evil spirits who have their interest at heart, not yours.
That’s why you should always use your intuition to discern the intent and effect of any message received. Does a spirit make you feel uneasy? Does the message seem harmful?
One of my weirder hobbies is watching Ex-New Ager Christian testimony videos. While I don’t have the negative experiences they do and I don’t think they have the right perspective about the supernatural, it’s very clear from these videos that bad spirits exist and many spiritual communities trivialize the danger.
Instead, they inadvertently encourage people to push more and more to get a spiritual high, only to find themselves burned in the process. I’m always concerned that this effect may be experienced by my own audience with my tarot readings. I suspect this may be why some religions even banned magic entirely (such as Christianity).
However, you don’t have to avoid something which empowers you. Just make sure you use your discernment in any practice, however nice it may seem at the surface. You never know what sort of spirits are trying to latch onto you.
Fortunately, it seems to be rare, so don’t live in fear! Just be mindful.
Co-Create Your Destiny
Whether you’re an atheist or a theist, there seems to be a general agreement that there’s a mixture of fate and free will. A lot of things are pre-determined, such as the death of the sun, while others have a more chaotic element.
Living beings tend to be especially random. You’re able to make decisions for yourself and alter the environment around you. But despite how many choices you have, there are still some obstacles you can’t overcome.
Spirits can influence your perception of free will and fate and give you a fatalistic view of either. You might be led to believe you have so much free will that there’s no purpose to life. Why are you here? You may fear there’s no answer so there’s no reason for you to keep breathing.
That’s a dangerous thought.
However, you may also be influenced to believe that you have no choice at all. This can be a religious view, such as with the Norse pagans, or a materialist one in which some atheists believe we’re all following a sequence of cause and effect.
That can make you feel hopeless.
But the truth is somewhere in the middle, and when you recognize that you can plan for the future and respond to most obstacles, you’ll be more empowered and less likely to fall victim to malevolent spiritual influence.
You’re the Boss Now
So there is a very real threat that spirits could boss you around in ways that you’d be aware of and in ways you wouldn’t.
Your primary key to avoiding this is knowing the problem is possible and having a healthy mindset that it can usually be overcome. The people who don’t do this are the ones who seem lost in the world. Sometimes for no discernible reason.
But if you look around, you’ll notice many people in your life seem to be progressing quite happily. There’s no evidence that spirits are bossing them around, so you should feel comfortable that you can do the same.
Fate exists, but so does free will. Spirits only have so much power over you.
