Self-Care You Need — Tarot Pick a Card
Hello, my soul friends! It’s autumn in the Northern Hemisphere which is when we snuggle up by the fire and get cozy. I decided it was time for a self-care tarot reading to match that lovely energy.
To receive your message from the universe, pick one of the piles above using your intuition.
After you select your cards, scroll down to your pile or choose below.
For this reading, I’ve used the Sacred Self-Care Oracle deck. This is an affiliate link, and it helps support me if you love the deck and want to buy it for yourself too.
Remember that you have free will. That means you can manifest the positive and avoid the negative of any reading.
Now let’s see what self-care practices you need right now.
Pile 1: Affectionate Penguin

Get REAL Close With Someone
You have a really fun spread. The first card, Sex, is a sign to seek physical comfort with a loved one (or yourself). But let’s describe why that’s self-care.
The main purpose of sex is reproduction. Parents feel immense satisfaction and fulfillment through having children. But there’s an immediate benefit too that is a bit more fun: chemical reactions.
Oxytocin is released which creates an emotional safety and bond between partners, especially in women. For men, vasopressin makes them feel more protective of their partner and creates loyalty.
Then there is dopamine, the reward chemical, and endorphins, which alleviate pain and boost mood.
Sex makes you feel good and closer to your partner. That’s something you need right now: to either create something that lasts (like a child or a creative project) or to bond with another human being.
Nature Is Special
But it’s not all about the 3D. Your second card, Look For Fairies, is telling you to pay attention to the enchantment of the natural world. In another one of my oracle decks, it states you’ll see fairies only if you believe in them first. That has truly altered my perspective in a fundamental way.
So trust that there’s real enchantment in the natural world and that spiritual beings exist all around you. They may not take the form you expect, but fairies themselves look like altered humans and animals.
I think that’s a sign that whenever you see something unusual in the natural world, a fairy could be at work.
Fairies can be mischievous, but they can also be helpful too. The point, however, is to see the beauty of spirituality everywhere you go.
That will awaken something within you and let you step into a more romanticized life.
Get a Pet Rock
One thing that comes from nature which is more tangible is crystals. The final card in your spread, Connect With Crystals, is asking you to find at least one crystal you bond with.
Crystals store vibrations and each type of crystal stores a unique energy. There’s a crystal for almost every mood and goal. If you hold or use crystals in a ritual way, it can boost that particular correspondence.
For example, amethyst is most often associated with spirituality and it can enhance meditation or other spiritual acts.
Personally, all my tarot readings are done on a table surrounded by blue quartz. This crystal is about clear communication and emotional healing
Try researching different crystals and choose the one that calls out to you. You might be surprised by its effect on your life.

Pile 2: Beautiful Peocock

Pen to Paper
Mindfulness and introspection are powerful tools. The first card, Journal, is one of the most accessible forms available. You can journal by brain dumping anything that comes to mind, in response to prompts online, or in guided journals that you buy.
Guided journals are really good if you tend to find yourself likely to ruminate and focus on the negatives. You can also get journals that just have you write one thing a day if you feel journaling is overwhelming.
Pay attention to the person’s eyes on this card. It’s psychedelic. Journaling can alter the way you think. One of the reasons why you’re taught to write an essay in school is that it helps to organize your thinking.
See journaling like that too. It can help you reprogram your mind to function in a better, more healthy way.
So if there’s an aspect of life that’s difficult for you, journaling on it will help change your identity at the thought level so you can approach that problem as if you were a different person. Sometimes that’s all you need.
The Sky Is Your Guide
Fate is powerful and your second card, Look to the Stars, is calling you to use astrology. This could mean following a regular horoscope and using that to guide your life. However, if you’re like me, that can be overwhelming and easy to forget.
If you’re like that, try exploring targeted astrological use cases. Many people will generate their astrological birth chart through an online provider like Astro-Seek or have a professional explain their chart or an aspect of that chart like their career.
But you can also use astrology in a general way through the Moons or astrological events. This is especially common with those who do Moon rituals or just want to have a general idea what’s happening to the world.
For example, the last Full Moon was in Aries. This was a time of fast action. That can be useful for some projects, but could lead to an impulse problem in others.
Tarot is good for specific situations and timelines. It works best for things you have control over or can change. But astrology is more focused on fate and the circumstances you have to deal with. That general energy can be really useful to know.
Get Outside Of Yourself
The last card in your spread is Take a Walk. Humans are built to walk an average of ten miles per day, and it’s considered the best long-term way to maintain health for all ages. Getting out in nature is also helpful, so if you aren’t able-bodied but can still use a wheelchair or go out into nature, that’s good too.
Because of my sleep disorder, I rarely get to leave the house. I find it helpful to do indoor walking tours in natural environments.
The point here is more about choosing an easy and immersive experience away from your current environment. Break your attention from your current tasks and enjoy the mindfulness of a good walk

Pile 3: Pink Pig

It’s Time to Listen
Your spread is all about traditional self-care. It may look similar to your normal routine with some minor additions.
The first card, Sound Healing, is about treating your ears with compassion. You can use traditional sound bath instruments if they’re available to you or recordings online.
Not everyone likes sound baths. To me it sounds like nails on a chalkboard. If that’s the case for you, any sort of meditative sound will work. I personally like playlists of focus music or nature sounds. During Spring and Summer, I listen to ocean waves and Fall and Winter fireplace sounds.
But when you do your sound healing, truly immerse yourself. Set aside at least five or ten minutes and meditate to that wave of healing sound. You can do a traditional breathing meditation while this experience is taking place or just rest in place.
It’ll help reset your mind. Some people even use sound as part of ritual cleansing. I often use a singing bowl before my tarot readings.
Treat Your Nose
Just like your ears, another sense you can enjoy an immersive experience with is scent.
I find that scent tends to evoke memories. Vanilla reminds me of baked goods around Christmas and it’s my favorite scent because of that. Try to find a scent that works with you and evokes a positive memory.
But you can also choose a correspondence that has spiritual meanings. Sage is a common one for cleansing. Rose for love. Lavendar for relaxation. That last one may be familiar to you because the marketing world is aware of that correspondence and includes lavender in many self-care goods.
Candles, essential oils, and incense are traditional scent carriers. Make sure it’s safe for pets (my cat nearly died because of an essential oil diffuser).
You can also use lotions on your body, bubble baths, or even bake goods. Some people create simmer pots of herbs and fruit on their stove. Don’t re-invent the wheel here and pick the most natural method for you.
Rest For Your Weary Soul
I see that the last card in your spread is Alone Time. If you’re an introvert, this advice is obvious, so let me describe this more for those who are extroverted or would like the theory behind it.
When you’re around other people, you need to defer to them at least somewhat. This means you aren’t completely free to do as you please and relax.
Alone time gives you the ability to be entirely focused on yourself. Think of a parent of a newborn here. They need to spend a lot of time caring for their infant, but never taking a break can lead to burnout, PTSD, or even violent psychosis.
The severity isn’t likely to be as bad for you if you aren’t tending a child, but you aren’t your best if you don’t have a break. You need to set aside time when you’re alone and when you have no expectations on your time. You can decompress and do what you want… or nothing at all. Whatever will help you feel at ease.
