This month I’ve decided to try a more minimalist reading. I felt they were getting too long for the monthlies and were overwhelming to write and read. Let me know what you think.

Pile 1: Church
Things Are Changing For Your Benefit
You’re going to let go of something this month that isn’t working anymore. The Nine of Wands, Reversed shows up in a reading when someone is feeling overwhelmed and needs relief. You’re not feeling supported and don’t think you can handle the responsibility that’s required to make things work.
And you know what? I don’t think this expectation is fair and you’re right to be skeptical.
The good news is that the Ace of Wands means you’re going to start something new. This is something that excites you or you’re inspired by. For some who chose this pile, it may be a sudden and unexpected change. But it’s a good one.
Things are looking up for you in August. You may not manifest everything that you want, but you’re going to change into a much more promising direction.
You’ll Get a Sign
The universe is on your side. The Judgment card means that things are going to work out for you. Your decision is the right one and you’re going to receive a confirmation of that (outside of this reading).
So even if you doubt your spark, you’re going to get a sign that you’re on the right path. Too often, when we change course, we operate on faith until we finally accomplish it.
But that’s not the case for you in August. You’ll receive that confirmation changing course was right and this could mean that you’re either getting support that you didn’t receive previously, or you’ll get a mini-manifestation that encourages you to keep going.
The Action You Should Take After This Reading
It’s clear from the cards that something you’re currently doing isn’t going to work. You may not know that right now, but you’ll discover what it is at some point in August.

Spend some time on your answer. Once you have something specific, you’re going to then imagine your life five years from now, or whatever future interval makes sense for you, if you had an alternative life.
Daydream here. Wonder in your imagination, but be realistic. Don’t imagine yourself being a pop singer if you don’t like singing. But imagine what seems truly delightful to you. Consider what you would enjoy doing on a daily basis. What excites you?
That is the direction you should be changing course to. Something about it is going to work. You may make some adjustments along the way, but consider switching to it as soon as possible even if you have to work on it part-time until it more fully manifests.

Pile 2: Buttferly
Time to Enjoy Other People
One of your relationships is going to disappoint you. The good news is that the Ace of Cups indicates you’ll start over with this person or begin spending time with other people.
It’s not specific in your spread whether this is romantic, platonic, familial, or even something like a work conflict. It’s also possible that you spend less time with this person, but are otherwise on good terms. You just need some space.
Consider August a reminder that having a diverse social network is good for you. No one person should be your everything. It’s unfair to them and unrealistic for you.
Not Exactly Perfect
But what about this relationship? This person is represented by the Queen of Swords, Reversed. Either you or them are having some sort of breakdown in communication. Someone might not be as kind with their words and even a bit cruel. If you’re in the Northern Hemisphere or on the equator, it could even be the heat.
That said, it’s clear by The Lovers, Reversed that you no longer feel as if you’re enjoying a paradise-like relationship with them. Some illusion you have towards them has shattered.
This card is also about a couple being expelled from paradise together, so this could be a confirmation that you won’t break up with the person. You just need to figure out how to handle the annoying quirks between you.
But there is a potential that things could return to what it was. That will require both of you to learn how to communicate better, forgive, and perhaps seek a third person to help you analyze what went wrong.
How to Approach Other People
You may have an idea of who this person you’ll have a conflict with already. But if not, it’ll happen at some point in August.

What in that list does this person do the worst? That may be where you’ll want to find companionship elsewhere. For example, maybe you have a coworker who you mostly get along with, but when you need help, they just suck and somehow make work harder than it needs to be. So you really need to find another coworker or even your boss for assistance.
I also think that when you do this you’ll form a better connection with this second person that you didn’t previously enjoy. You can also train that relationship to be limited to the needs you actually want to use it for.
Imagine you have a romantic partner who is atrocious at consoling you with work issues despite being so good in other areas. Even if they improve over time, you don’t have confidence you can always rely on them.
So talking about work issues with a friend or even in an online community would let you vent without bringing that conflict into your more intimate romantic relationship.

Pile 3: Coffee
Things Are Happening
This is a social month with a lot of personable energy going on. The first card, King of Wands, is about a very passionate person, either a man or someone extroverted. The king is able to claim what he wants and will get it at any cost.
Meanwhile, the Knight of Swords is someone that is more impulsive, but still very competent. They may be a bit hasty to act and will be easily swayed by the King.
You’re likely The Empress in this spread, though if you feel a pull towards another card, that’s it. This final card is about nurturing something within or enjoying abundance. This energy feels separate from the others, and at the same time, more composed and above them. They aren’t as involved in this project.
I sense the theme of this month is at least two people in your life, and maybe you’re one of them, throwing themselves into something without a lot of forethought while a third just sits back and relaxes.
All Is Well
I almost never pull all social and people cards in positive positions, so I find this spread significant for that reason, especially since I feel a social energy coming from them. All the cards are upright, so this does indicate that whatever this hasty project is, it’s not going to be destructive.
If you’re on the in, prepare for a wild and fun ride. If you’re on the out, The Empress, you may be amused by these two people’s adventures, but not really interested in participating yourself.
They’re probably going to get you to try. This kind of reminds me of a family going to the beach and the father and child going out into the waves to play, but the tired mother just wants to relax and enjoy her vacation reading a book and enjoying the sun. Yet the father and child keep calling her from the water.
So I’m not seeing any conflict here. Just you and the people in your life enjoying what August has to offer. Which appears to be good things.
Take This Month Slowly
Still, why such a boring spread? Maybe that’s the point. A lot of the world slows down in August and just enjoys relaxing. This is especially true in Europe where August is the month many non-tourist workplaces shut down for people to go on vacation for weeks.
My American mind cannot comprehend this. I will invent things to do for myself. But I think that perspective is what the universe is trying to make sure you don’t do this month. August this year is for you to unwind. If this is the traditional vacation month for you, don’t invent work for yourself just because you have time off. Enjoy the season.
But if you don’t have weeks of vacation off, go ahead and give yourself permission to do as little as possible. That way you can pursue things that inspire you or just lay back and reap the rewards of a staycation.
A little recharge may be in order. Try to get everyone you live with on board or spend more time with others outside the home.
