Truths About Your Family: Tarot Pick a Card
Hello, my soul friends! Today I have a reading about the truths of your family. These may be secrets or something that you already might know but need more confirmation.
If you want, you can pick a card based on your ancestors or your birth family if you’re adopted – just make sure you have this idea firmly in mind.
All you have to do is pick the pile that sticks out to you the most. Which animal inspires your intuition? That’s your pile and that’s your tarot reading.
After you select your cards, scroll down to your pile or choose below.
Here I’m using the Fountain Tarot deck (this is an affiliate link that supports me if you make a purchase). Remember that you have free will. That means you can manifest the positive and avoid the negative of any reading.
Now it’s time to uncover truths about your family.
Pile 1: Cow
The Devil You Know
This is a generally good spread because it suggests a present or positive future, but the past is very negative. The first card, The Devil, Reversed, indicates overcoming a major vice like an addiction.
For most who chose this pile, whatever this vice is may be in the past or it’s not quite as bad as it used to be.
But more than any other spread today, this spread has a greater effect on you as a person. The way we’re raised, our environment, and our genetics can determine outcomes in our life.
Something like the tendency to become addicted can be inherited and children of those with addictions often can’t start a normal hobby like casual drinking without reasonable fear it’ll get out of control.
Additionally, there may be an occult element here. Some who chose this pile could be suffering under a family curse or have a haunted home. So if strange things are happening to you, that’s why.
There’s also a strong ancestral element to this spread. Even if you aren’t reading for your ancestors, there may be a lineage to whatever vice is present here that goes further back than you expect.
Use Spiritual Powers
But again, this spread is generally positive or it can be oriented in that way. The next card is The Magician. This is a card of manifestation and connection to the heavens.
For some families going through an issue right now, know that you have what you need if you opened your eyes to get this family member or family members assistance. You aren’t nearly as helpless as you fear you are.
However, let’s go back to the occult element that I mentioned before. Not everyone who picked this spread is dealing with spirits or demonic forces, but everyone (and especially those unfortunate people being haunted), would benefit from spiritual practices.
My general advice when it comes to negative spiritual activity is to pursue your own religious practices first and seek help when needed. But if that’s not working, consider the possible religious practices of the spirit when it was alive or any practitioners who are particularly powerful in your area.
Haunted by a ghost who lived during Christian times? Call an exorcist. Living in South Korea? Christianity may not work in that case even if you and the ghost may be Christian a Mudang might be more appropriate. Local spirits and practices may be stronger than yours if you have an unusual practice for the area.
As for those who are dealing with more normal (but heartbreaking) vices, get in touch with whatever practice is most soothing. This is also a strong indication that a Twelve Step program may be beneficial as it is structured with a spiritual connection.
If you’re weathering the storm against a family member, something like meditation or journaling will help you keep your vibrations high and maintain emotional peace.
Also, this deserves to be said: this card indicates that while the vice may be easily inheritable, you have the power to reject that vice if you put your mind to it.
Let It Go
Your final card is the Eight of Swords, Reversed. This is about releasing whatever binds you. Again, the spiritual effects of this spread are quite high, so I have a few magical and not-so-magical suggestions.
The magical suggestion would be something like a cord-cutting ritual. Doing this symbolic, magic practice can help you break whatever spirit ties are empowering the vice.
But anything cleansing should help as well, like prayer, saging, and protective charms.
Let’s not discount non-magical suggestions. If you’ve been wounded by your family’s vices, then therapy or journaling can help you sort out your thoughts and feelings. Support groups may also be called for, either in person or online.
One thing you may not realize is that when there’s something wrong in your family, you sometimes feel unable to talk about it. If you feel that was a pressure you had to deal with, I strongly recommend finding someone you can talk to about it so you can finally release all the thoughts and feelings you’ve been repressing into a safe space.

Pile 2: Bird
Life’s Not Fair
Something terrible happened to your family in the past or right now. This is likely something you’re aware of, but depending upon the particular tragedy, your family members may have kept it from you to protect you or their pride.
However, this silence can sometimes lead to you not understanding why a family member acts a certain way. An example would be a family going broke because another family member ran off with all their money and now they never talk.
The first card in your spread, Justice, does indicate that the legal system either stepped in recognize what happened or that there was some sort of support for those immediately affected.
Unfortunately, justice often can’t take back the tragedy and restore the victims in full. So while the legal or social support was given, your family is likely very aware that the initial support was not sufficient for their need for wholeness.
This can leave a scar and it’s likely something you were aware of even if you didn’t know the origin. Your family may feel as if life is unfair even with so-called protections in place. So you may have grown up believing you’re fighting against the entire world just to survive – but losing.
Everything Looks Bleak
Your next card is Ten of Swords. This is a ruin card and it expands upon what I mentioned in the last. Your family was deeply disturbed by their tragedy and they may still feel like they haven’t recovered.
On one hand, this is a card where nothing can get worse and you can choose to pivot. But pivoting after a tragedy is never easy and some people simply can’t move beyond their pain. And who could blame them for feeling that way?
This is also a card of betrayal, so perhaps your family was betrayed by someone or a system they once trusted.
You may find it a beneficial exercise to respond to this journal or meditative prompt: “Here’s what I don’t trust about the world.” This will reveal to you the embedded trauma response within your family about the tragedy they experienced.
Now in this spread, I primarily sense a tragedy in your immediate family, but it’s possible it could refer to an ancestral problem. Something that comes to mind as an example is generational poverty, systematic racism, or your ancestors experiencing war.
Either way, the trauma your family experienced had some level of impact on how you perceive the world. You may not even still be experiencing what they did but feel as if that’s true because you have no other way of perceiving the world.
The Pain is Real But Doesn’t Have to Last
The third card is the Seven of Swords. I usually see two distinct meanings in this card that tend to work together. The first is that you no longer have to defend yourself and the second is that you’re now in an unfavorable situation.
Let’s use an example: a child grows up in an immigrant family that fled war in their home country. In their new home they’re no longer in fear for their life and their child has everything they need to thrive. But the PTSD the parents faced caused them to approach parenting with fear for the future. The child grows up having a fatalistic view of the world even though they have no reason to have that fear.
Perception is powerful and so too are the after-effects of a tragedy. Recovery isn’t easy even when the tragedy itself has passed.
You may need to have empathy for your family and patience for the ways they’re different from other families around you. Some families may strike out against others because of their pain, and that’s not something you should excuse, but otherwise, you should give your family the same grace you would expect from others towards you.
Also, know that your view of the world has been affected and you should consider finding ways to challenge that perception so you can improve your life. Because it can be better for you than you think. You just can’t see that right now because you’re used to seeing the pain.

Pile 3: Hamster
The Fight Continues
It seems like your family deserves more than they’re getting. The first card, The Emperor, indicates that your family knows how to act to improve their circumstances or live comfortably.
But the rest of the spread seems to indicate that they aren’t receiving equal rewards for their efforts.
Some in this spread may see the results of this truth manifesting into poverty or money troubles. Some may have divorced families because one spouse cheated on the other or abandoned the family.
However, this spread doesn’t necessarily indicate a tragic incident. It could be as simple as a parent who has a good job but isn’t able to get a promotion.
The point isn’t so much what happened, but the effect it has on you. In particular, your family seems to have reacted not in gloom, but in fury. They push instead of flee.
That inner fire can lead to a desire for activism, tiger parenting, or gossip.
It may be difficult for you to be around so much anger. Even when it’s not directed at you, you may feel as if you have to fight the world all the time. There isn’t a moment of peace as your family isn’t successful in using their fury beyond simple persistence amid a challenge.
Things Have to Change
The second card in your spread is Six of Wands, Reversed. Your family didn’t receive the recognition they deserved. Some in this spread may even feel as if you’re family is now being attacked.
This anger from the environment may be unfair, but some families in this spread may have reacted with so much fury that they’ve created enemies.
Be very careful with perceiving fury. You may want to assume it’s an extroverted energy, but that’s not always the case. Fury can also manifest as passive-aggressiveness or anti-social behavior.
You may have felt like you didn’t get socialized as much as a child or that you didn’t have as many meaningful connections or opportunities to connect as you would like. This is because your family has a fundamental distrust and they’re perceived that way by others.
This can be a frustrating reality to deal with, especially if you like your family and believe they truly aren’t being recognized for their competencies. You may feel as if they just changed their communication style or approach things would get better.
But the truth is that your family’s root problem isn’t their fury (that’s just a side effect). Rather, the environment they’re in isn’t conducive to success and being recognized.
You need to have a heart-to-heart with yourself on whether or not you can stay in this environment. For some of you, this may mean moving out, leaving your hometown, or changing something about your life which is normally inherited by other members of your family.
Spiritual Poverty
Your third card is the Five of Pentacles, Reversed. I think your family can avoid total ruin, but even if that occurs, something is missing beyond receiving recognition.
We live in an increasingly secular society. There is now a disconnection from the divine. Even people who go to traditional places of worship sometimes just see it as a chore instead of a transformative experience.
There’s spiritual poverty present in this card and it’s the one thing you have the most control over when it comes to your family’s situation.
The more negative a perspective you have on the world, the more likely you are to attract bad things to you. This is both psychologically and spiritually true. But on the spiritual level, it seems like your family is becoming increasingly obsessed with mundane reality instead of the potential of their higher selves at a soul level.
This is why they’re angry as they can only see what they don’t have at a material level.
You can correct that in yourself and perhaps even bring some good luck into your family by embracing a spiritual practice. You don’t need to do it 24/7, but a simple routine like a morning meditation or Law of Attraction scripting could shift some of the energy around your family in a positive way.
And if you can, invite your family members to adopt some of these practices or allow you to place spiritual charms in their homes like crystals. Good energy can be contagious in the same way bad energy can be infectious.
