December 2021: Tarot Pick a Card
2021 has been an unexpected year for all of us. I’m certain you want to know how it’s going to end. With this tarot pick a card, we can tap into the energy of the universe to find out.
All you have to do is select one of the piles of cards above. Make sure to use your intuition so you’ll choose the message that was meant for you. This month, I decided to use some seasonal illustrations to help you along.
After you select your cards, scroll down to your pile.
In this reading, I’m using the Everyday Tarot and the Work Your Light oracle decks (these are affiliate links that support my tarot reading). I’ll be asking the universe to give an overall theme of the month and a week-by-week breakdown of what to expect.
Now let’s uncover the December conclusion to your 2021 year.
Pile 1
Theme of the Month
Your focus is going to be expressing yourself. Your theme card is Share Your Voice with the wisdom message to “Come out of the cave. Persecution. Expression.” I’m reminded of the allegory of Plato’s Cave, and I sense that you’re going to confront the world by speaking your truth. This is both scary and exhilarating!
Week 1: December 1st to 5th
The first few days of December for you will be a little frustrating. That’s because your card, the Knight of Pentacles, Reversed, suggests you might be in a rut. I believe this is because you’re facing the darkness of the world and you aren’t sure yet how to combat it.
Although self-expression is important to you in December, you’ll do a lot of work and won’t get many rewards. That’s because you need to think creatively and act with more spontaneity.
I sense that you haven’t been as expressive as you needed to be in the past. Perhaps you spoke out and paid the price. Or maybe you were threatened or taught not to express yourself at all. Neither is easy to get over, and when you do begin to make the attempt they won’t always be the best attempts at first.
Week 2: December 6th to 12th
The pace quickens in your second week with The Chariot. This is a card of progress and determined action. You’ll feel inspired to speak out and bravely chart your course. Just be aware that you’re heading into “enemy territory” so to speak.
The Chariot is rarely considered for its military connotations in tarot, but the traditional card features the charioteer clothed in armor. Here he appears more mystical, but I do sense you’ll be doing a metaphorical battle. Stand strong and fight for what matters.
Week 3: December 13th to 19th
By the middle of the month, things will slow down. That’s because you’re tapping into your subconscious. The Moon card is about illusions and pausing to evaluate one’s fears. Do you see the scorpion sneaking up on the dog and the wolf?
I believe your previous action may have left you a little exposed. In Plato’s allegory, the prisoners chained to the wall were unaware that the shadows in the cave were cast by figures moving behind them. It was only after they were freed from their imprisonment and able to move beyond their known boundaries that they saw the truth.
Don’t look at what is likely to be a nasty surprise as simple misfortune. It serves as an important awakening. Your understanding of the world is constantly evolving, and how you express yourself will change as you do in reaction to the way the world reacts to you.
Week 4: December 20th to 26th
At this point in the month, you’re able to confront negative energy with greater strength and awareness. The Hierophant, Reversed card is about rebellion and being true to yourself. I sense you’ll really come into your own this week and find a way to organize your self-expression to be more effective.
But this does come with a perspective shift that will take some getting used to. Your life will be different than it was before.
Week 5: December 27th to 31st
Your month ends with the Two of Wands, Reversed. I believe you’ll find yourself at the end of the road you’ve been traveling on and won’t know where to go next. That’s okay. What you should focus on is making sure that you’re in alignment with your personal values and remain curious.
Instead of planning with lengthy, concrete steps, look for opportunities instead. You’ve had a lot going on this month and I believe you may have missed something new you could have added to your life. Realize how rich and full of potential your path can be if you embrace it.
Self-expression is dynamic too. You can’t always plan out how you want to interact with the world because the world is always changing. Be open to surprises, both pleasant and unpleasant, because it will inform how you’ll speak your truth.
Pile 2
Theme of the Month
This December you’re going to be fighting for your destiny. The theme card is Warrior Woman and the wisdom message is “Have you answered your deepest calling?” Too often, we get dragged down by the details and monotony of our lives and forget to prioritize on what matters. But for you, your focus will be on your life purpose and making a lot of progress on it.
Week 1: December 1st to 5th
Your first week can be described by the Temperance card. Although this card is frequently described as one of moderation, it’s also about purpose. You will be contemplative in your first week as you re-evaluate your life to see if you’re going in the right direction.
Seek spiritual answers over the material. Your life purpose is more than just being wealthy, but also giving back. Your calling is a soul mission the universe has given you to make a difference.
Perhaps you already know what it is and just need to check in to make sure you’re on course. But if you aren’t certain, try guided meditations, journaling, and other spiritual activities to look within for your true calling.
Week 2: December 6th to 12th
Even though your theme card is rather ambitious, each week is more introspective than I expected. This is true for your second week with the card Six of Swords, Reversed too. What you learned from the previous week is going to cause you to pause.
This is because you need time to build up your fortitude. Warriors must train before they fight, and you need time to prepare for your life purpose. Practice what you intend to pursue in whatever manner feels right to you so you have a better understanding of how to proceed in the future.
It’s okay to experiment in areas you never thought to try before too. Try and have fun with it. You might surprise yourself with what options you have that you didn’t consider before.
Week 3: December 13th to 19th
This week is where you’re going to work hard. The Seven of Pentacles is where you invest in your future. There’s no certainty: just like a farmer may plant crops that die from bad weather or pests. However, if you carefully tend to that investment, there’s a good chance it will reap a bounty beyond your wildest dreams.
Take this lesson for this week: fighting for what you believe in isn’t always a dramatic event. Sometimes, fighting for your future is just showing up every day and doing your best. Over time, something amazing will grow out of it.
Week 4: December 20th to 26th
The fourth week of December is when you’re going to feel the most frustration and obstacles. That’s because your card is the Knight of Wands, Reversed. Even in its upright position, the knight is racing through a desert landscape. But this is a card of impulsive passion, and I sense you’re going to try and orient yourself this week in preparation for the year ahead according to your calling.
However, be forewarned that you don’t have the right concentration of energy and experience to succeed in the way you wish to. That’s okay. Warriors have to be brave and take risks if they’re going to win the battle, and the outcome relies on how well prepared you are. Recognize that you will also have to keep practicing to fully embrace who you are. You will have future battles to fight.
Use this week as an opportunity to look over what you’ve done so far and examine how you could have done it better. Your passion deserves your full awareness of your capabilities.
Week 5: December 27th to 31st
The year will end with the card Ten of Cups. Everyone loves this card because it promises domestic bliss and harmony. Why is that so important to you now?
You’ve done a lot of hard work this month, some of which won’t bare fruit for quite some time. This is likely to really try your patience. However, the end of the year has also given you the time to look back at what you achieved so you can better anticipate the next year.
Use these final few days as a way to celebrate everything you’ve done so far. You’re a warrior returning home from battle. It’s time to feast.
Pile 3
Theme of the Month
What better way to spend the month than to bring beauty into the world? Your theme card for December is Sisterhood of the Rose with the wisdom message of “Beauty and devotion. Priestess. Mystic. Teacher.” That means you’re going to feel a spark of creativity and spiritual enlightenment that will empower you to see the fullness of life. You don’t want to miss your chance to make the most of this amazing energy.
Week 1: December 1st to 5th
I sense the reason you’ll feel so creative this month is the chaotic bursts of energy, positive and negative, which will come your way. This usually motivates someone to think beyond their normal limitations. And for you, we see that in your first card, Ace of Pentacles.
You’re going to feel like something is missing in your life. That’s because you’ll realize you had an opportunity, but didn’t pursue it. Now you’re faced with regret.
Make sure you don’t let this negative energy depress you. Allow yourself to mourn the road you didn’t get to take, and then ask yourself if it was the right one anyway. If it was, see if you can go back and try a different path to the same destination. If it wasn’t, see what roads are available to you now.
Week 2: December 6th to 12th
Things are looking up for you in the second week. Here, your card is the Page of Pentacles. This is a good card to come after your last because the page embodies the blessing of manifestation. You’ll have a new idea or project that you’ll want to pursue.
Don’t miss this chance. Even if you don’t have all the resources and knowledge right now, you can still do something. For example, let’s say you want to be a professional singer, but you don’t have the money for a recording studio or the right knowledge of music theory to create original songs. How about filming covers on your phone and uploading it to YouTube?
Your idea can begin to take a rough shape from the very beginning. Do what you can and surprise yourself with ingenuity on how to improve what you do.
Week 3: December 13th to 19th
The middle of the month is marked by the celebration of Four of Wands. This can also be interpreted as a homecoming or just joy. But I want to dwell on the suit and numerology more than anything else: wands are known for passion and energy. The number four is about stability. That means you’re beginning to discover a consistent and reliable way to express yourself creatively!
One of the problems with creativity is burnout. Sometimes, we push ourselves so far that our inner flame dies. This is a creative block, and it’s not always easy to overcome it.
Take a moment at the end of this week to look back and ask yourself what you did right that you want to continue doing so you’ll have a better energetic passion to rely on in the future.
Week 4: December 20th to 26th
Here is another week where you’re going to feel frustrated. That’s because of the Queen of Swords, Reversed. She’s a figure who can’t balance her emotions and her reason. Because of this, she has a toxic and self-destructive personality.
Are you doing something which is hurting you? Likely, you won’t see this right away, so have patience and pay attention to how others are responding to the way you communicate. You might be coming on a little strong and it’s causing you to say and do hurtful things to others. Now imagine the kind of self-talk you give yourself!
Week 5: December 27th to 31st
I don’t want to alarm you, but I’m sensing that you’re not going to make the best plans for the new year. That’s because of The Fool, Reversed. Yes, it will seem like they’re good ideas, but what you’re really going to plan for is a risky action or project that’s never going to manifest the way you want. Perhaps you’re just a little too excited about new possibilities! We all do that.
Go ahead and make plans, but also make another plan to revisit them in a few weeks to a month. That way, you can tweak your plans to better match your personal goals.
