How to Build Yourself Up Again: Tarot Pick a Card
Hello, my soul friends! Today I have a happy reading. This message is for those who need or just want a boost in their emotional health with self-care practices and affirmative wisdom straight from the universe.
All you have to do is pick the pile that sticks out to you the most. Which animal inspires your intuition? That’s your pile and that’s your tarot reading.
After you select your cards, scroll down to your pile or choose below.
Today I’m using the Believe in Your Own Magic Oracle deck (this is an affiliate link that supports me if you make a purchase). Remember that you have free will. That means you can manifest the positive and avoid the negative of any reading.
Now let’s help you build yourself up again.
Pile 1: Seahorse
You Need Time For Yourself
The first card in your spread is Tower with the wisdom message of “Unplug and relax for a spell.” It’s good to be connected, but sometimes we’re connected to so many things at once on a superficial level that we’re not present in this universe.
A modern way that we do this is to spend too much time in front of screens. But this tense connection can be to thoughts about responsibilities like work or worries we have.
It’s not bad to have these connections, but if you let them consume you then you’ll never be present with yourself in the moment.
Ask yourself where you’re tethered to something that is starting to be harmful to you even though it’s an important part of your life. You don’t need to get rid of it, but you need to set aside intentional time to relax.
Have a few hours each week where you aren’t in front of screens, refuse to check in with work after hours, or give yourself some “me” time.
The Wisdom of a Child
Another self-care practice you need right now is Sun with the wisdom message of “Paint the sun back into your sky.” The sun represents creativity, vitality, and positivity. You need to do something in your life that’s frivolous and childlike.
As we get older, we expect a mature person to act a certain way. And there’s good reason to “grow up” and act differently. But setting aside time to play and be silly is important for your mental health. Everyone is meant to play, children and adults.
Perhaps this is sports, a creative project, or even a childlike hobby like card collecting or watching cartoons. Moderate enjoyment of fun, silly things are perfectly acceptable as long as you’re meeting your responsibilities in other areas of your life.
But you’ll also find that this enjoyment of “silly” things will recharge you and give you meaning. Perhaps you have big goals and that’s great. But you can’t only derive meaning from ambition. Play helps you live in the moment and have a more sensory experience even if you’re daydreaming.
Triggering your imagination is what’s called for here. Remember how when you were a child you thought everything was possible? That’s what getting in touch with your child self means.
Be Reasonable to Live Reasonably
Your final card is Feather with the wisdom message of “Think before you judge.” You may not realize it, but you’re letting harsh criticism warp your experience of the world.
Yes, sometimes judgment is important and necessary, but you may be pressing a little too hard with that knife’s edge. This could be leading you to expect too much from yourself or others. This unreasonable expectation will trick you into perfectionism.
Most things don’t require perfectionism. We expect a surgeon to be perfect at their job, but we don’t expect that same surgeon to never say a mistaken comment to a friend.
In areas where there’s room for error or personal opinion, let that space exist. When you do this, you’ll find that the expectations you have for yourself become reasonable too.
Need help? Try a simple writing exercise where you ask yourself what you’re judging too harshly and then respond with how you can be gentler in your judgment.

Pile 2: Friends
Eat and Be Merry
What a fun card! The first in your spread is Feast with the wisdom message of “Slow down and celebrate yourself.” The universe is permitting you to have an amazing meal.
A feast isn’t a mindless binge. Rather, it’s an intentional celebration with food. We often have feasts to celebrate a person or event, but a random feast just because can be a wonderful way to boost your mood.
Pick a date and plan a meal. You’re welcome to invite someone if you want, but it’s okay to have a private feast with yourself. If you’re on a diet, you can make a special meal you wouldn’t normally make that still fits your nutritional requirements. But if you aren’t on a diet or you have room to splurge, do so!
Just make sure that when you sit down to eat that you’re present in the moment. If you’re going to watch television or do something “mindless” be intentional about what you’re going to watch to make the experience stand out.
If you’re eating with others, enjoy the conversation and make memories! Take a picture if you can.
Things Are Better Than You’re Telling Yourself
The second card in your spread is Flower with the wisdom message of “Be honest with yourself.” I thought of the English idiom from Shakespeare A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet.
There’s a truth that you’re aware of, and a positive one at that, but you’re hiding it with some false cover. An example of this would be: you know that you’re a good writer, but you think that logically you’ll never become an author.
Just because you’re covering up the truth with a rational lie doesn’t mean the truth about yourself isn’t still true. Yes, there are difficulties in life and there are things we can’t do. But everyone has gifts or interests that set them apart from others and that’s true of you too.
You may or may not need to approach this truth in a different way to manifest, but what you inherently know to be true is meant to be expressed in how you live your life. So embrace that truth. It’s who you really are.
Be Kind to Yourself
The third card in your spread is Evil Queen with the wisdom message of “You deserve sugar, not salt.” Some people are strongly motivated by fear or pain. But not everyone, and even those who are will find that fear doesn’t work in every situation.
There’s some sort of pressure you’re experiencing, perhaps pressure you’re putting on yourself, which seems reasonable, but isn’t effective.
I’ll use an example: when I was a teenager and taking driver’s education, they spent three weeks before we got into the vehicle drilling it into our skulls that a car was a five thousand pound weapon. And I mean they really pushed the idea.
This was a grave mistake and has fundamentally warped my perception of driving. Now I can’t get into a car without thinking I’m going to accidentally commit vehicular manslaughter. Since then I’ve also realized that fearmongering in any area of my life has the opposite effect and only promotes avoidance rather than caution.
That’s what I’m seeing here and you need to try and stop yourself from thinking this way in your life to either prevent or lessen its effect. Gentleness is needed.

Pile 3: Bunny
Things Are Going to Get Better
I see that the first card in your spread is Storm with the wisdom message of “Every hurricane comes to an end.” Some challenging aspect of your life is ending soon and things are going to get easier.
See how this card features a woman wearing a crown? When this difficult situation ends, you’ll still be in a position of strength. Some who chose this pile will need to rebuild, but you’ll have everything you need or the ability to do so.
It’s okay to take time right now to recover. Sometimes reacting with full force isn’t appropriate. You may need to “retreat” and spend some time thinking about your plan of action.
It’s Time to Liberate Yourself
The next card is Wings with the wisdom message of “You never needed those wings to fly.” You may not realize it, but you’re wearing training wheels when it comes to something in your life.
Perhaps you’re a writer who is spending a lot of time reading about how to write well. This would indicate that you now know enough to start a project.
But perhaps these wings are a person or situation. Some of you may be relying on someone out of fear you can’t do it yourself. Know that you can, however.
That doesn’t mean you’ll do things perfectly, but you have permission from the universe to live independently and with grace.
You might think it’s scary at first, and I understand that. But see how the woman on the card seems liberated in flight?
Dependence is only good for so long. If you can do things yourself, then you’ll usually find that doing so will give you more precision and choice.
Here’s an example many people eventually experience: someone who moves out of their parents’ house for the first time will find they have a lot of responsibilities to attend to, but also a lot of privileges. They get to choose their house rules, decorate how they please, and spend money on what they want.
Letting go of your training wheels is going to change your life to be better even if it might require more effort.
You Are Valuable
Your final card is Lighthouse with the wisdom message of “Don’t doubt your worth.” I see two meanings here. The first is that you have inherent worth and dignity. It’s not something you have to earn. You have the right to exist and it’s meaningful that you do.
But there’s another meaning here and it’s independent to you. You have skills and interests that set you apart from others. The time you have spent in these areas has created value that nobody else can replace.
Let’s use an example of artists. Some artists are technically better than others, but no artist creates the same piece of work. Their value is independent to them and what they create is meaningful to the people who receive it.
That masterpiece in a museum is valuable, but so is the silly cartoon print you may have on a decorated coffee mug.
Don’t compare your intrinsic value to someone else just because they may (or may not) be technically better at what you do. Instead, accept that what you do provides value that others can’t. Everyone fills their own niche.
