Is Jussie Smollett’s Career Over?: Tarot Reading
When I heard about Jussie’s crime, I was crushed because it was obviously a hoax from the beginning. I had seen the first season of Empire and liked his character the most, so I’ve been legitimately crestfallen by the developments in this case.
One thing I’ve wanted to know is if Jussie will recover from this PR disaster and make amends with the public – especially as he continues to make mistake after mistake in his court case. So I decided to find out with a tarot reading. Remember this tarot reading is alleged and for entertainment purposes only.
Here I’ll be using the Everyday Tarot and the Moonology oracle decks (these are affiliate links that help support me if you make a purchase).
Now let’s find out what Jussie’s future is.
The Cards

He Needs to Save Himself
Jussie’s spread is promising, which I honestly didn’t anticipate, but it’s clear making amends is going to take a lot of work. His first card is the Knight of Wands which suggests he’s going to need to advocate for himself and take on a lot of projects early and often.
I think he’s going to lose a lot of allies and friends because of his lies. People are always going to wonder if he can be trusted and if he’s going to be a good person on set or in the studio. After all, if he staged a hoax once, he could foreseeably do it again from their perspective. That can be threatening in an industry where image is everything.
This card is considered the knight in shining armor, but I see that knight as Jussie himself. The only person who’s going to care about his career will be him. He probably won’t have the support of enough fans to bring in audiences to new projects. Some people may even try to use the mob to cancel these projects. And this is from both sides of the political aisle.
That’s why I think Jussie needs to start small and take as many things on as he can so he doesn’t lose his career entirely.
Embracing Humility
The next card here is the Five of Wands. One good thing about his spread is that the conflict he’ll face in the future will probably not be criminal or career-ending. I think, for the most part, the hoax may not be something he repeats in the future and instead he’s more likely to quarrel with others instead. But civil suits remain a possibility.
These arguments can lead to him having doors shut in his face, so he needs to make sure he doesn’t pick battles he can’t win. He’s likely going to feel attacked from every direction for many years.
Interestingly, I don’t sense that he’ll be barred from big projects altogether. Instead, he may be part of ensemble casts, such as for movies and television shows. I also get the distinct impression he would do well as a voice actor.
Overall, it seems like Jussie is going to have a lot of bit parts at first. For music, he’ll want to be featured on other artists’ tracks and maybe even produce. He’s simply too toxic right now to sell using just his own name.
Making New Dreams
The third card is the Knight of Cups, Reversed. With two knight cards, and me seeing Jussie as the knight, I think that some of his dreams are going to fall away forever. I don’t get the impression from his spread that he’s ever going to be an A-list celebrity even when he lands roles in major projects later on.
This is going to be a blow to his ego. If he doesn’t reconcile the fact he needs to plan a different future for himself in Hollywood, it may lead him to lose his confidence and his mind.
But I don’t necessarily think he won’t be influential in other areas. As long as his face isn’t tied to his work, there’s a good chance he could be a central figure in the industry. However, I don’t think working behind the scenes is something he wanted and it’s going to be disheartening for him to realize that’s no longer in the cards.
The Origins of His Crime
His fourth card and first oracle card is Third Quarter Moon with the wisdom message of “Adjustments are required.” He’s not young. At thirty-nine, some of his roles and visual appeal of him as an actor or singer are going to transition into a more mature fanbase.
He can use this to his advantage, though. Because he’s at a point in his career already where he could take a different path, he can use them to seamlessly change to a new tone.
That also means his current approach in Hollywood was already problematic and may have been why he chose to fake a hate crime. His star as a young idol was fading because he didn’t get enough major roles to make the most of it at the time. He wanted to be in the spotlight for a career that was already on the outs.
Looking Ahead
As for the last card in Jussie’s spread, the Full Moon in Sagittarius with “Look at the big picture” is very promising. Right now, Jussie has too narrow a perspective of what fame can be and how he can use his talents to achieve that.
He needs to move beyond his current expectations and experiment. It could benefit him to go overseas or begin working towards a new expression of his career in the future.
There’s an element of intelligence here. Had Jussie plotted an ethically moral path forward, he might’ve had one last major hit before needing to transition into a more mature role. But his misinformed actions and the inability to see beyond the present had very negative ramifications for his career.
From now on, he needs to plan big and plan for the long term if he wants his career to succeed.
But will he do it? To be honest, I’m not sure. When pride gets in the way, everything becomes complicated and success can be fleeting. Some might even say that Jussie deserves that failure after abusing the public trust with a hoax hate crime.
